On September 24, F-16 fighter jets of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) destroyed a hideout of ISIS to the north of Lake Hamrin in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala.

Two terrorists of ISIS were reportedly taking shelter in the hideout, which was hit by a couple of airstrikes. Spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yehia Rasool, said that the hideout was located by the Directorate of Military Intelligence.

A day after the airstrike, on September 25, a large security force was reportedly dispatched to conduct a search operation around the hideout.

ISIS cells maintain a strong percent in Diyala, especially around Lake Hamrin and in the nearby mountain chain which spread into the northern province of Kirkuk.

Earlier this week, two of the group’s terrorists were killed in Hamrin Mountains as a result of a special operation that was carried out by the IQAF and the Iraqi National Intelligence Service.

The IQAF stepped up its combat operations against ISIS cells in the western, northern and eastern regions earlier this year in cooperate with different Iraqi intelligence agencies. Recent airstrikes inflicted heavy human and material losses on the terrorist group. However, the group’s insurgency will not likely end any time soon.
