Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has assassinated two Turkish-backed militants inside the occupied area of Afrin, Syrian opposition sources revealed on May 14.
According to the sources, two assassins of the group infiltrated Afrin in the early hours of the morning and stormed a house in the area of Iskan. The assassins killed two Turkish-backed-militants with hand guns equipped with silencers before opening fire at two 6-year old and 3-year old children injuring them.
The casualties were identified as Mohamad Nasir al-Barsha and Ahmad Abd al-Daim. Both are reportedly fighters of the Turkish-backed Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement, which was expelled from the western Aleppo countryside earlier this year as result of a large-scale attack by HTS.
Opposition sources said that the assassination was planned by Qutibah al-Barsha, a security commander of HTS who is related to Nasir.
HTS has not commented on these claims, so far. If confirmed, this will be the first attack by HTS on a Turkish-occupied area. Such an attack could lead to a response from Turkish-backed groups, which are stationed few kilometers away from HTS’ positions in northern Idlib.
