Statista’s Niall McCarthy notes that, according to an analysis undertaken by Bloomberg, the U.S. president’s power is absolute in this situation – he or she gives the order and the Pentagon is obliged to go along with it.

The following infographic provides an overview of the steps necessary to make it happen.

It can take as little as five minutes from the president’s decision to strike to intercontinental missiles launching from their silos.

When it comes to submarine-launched weapons, however, it takes a little bit longer – approximately 15 minutes.

if, and only if, this scenario becomes a reality someday (which it most likely wont, and hopefully/rightfully so!) it will most likely be because of anything to do with or revolving around israel. imagine aliens investigating a destroyed earth after a nuclear holocaust, what would they be wondering to themselves.

Its like SF and/or its writers is feeding of the “nuclear war hysteria” and helping feeding the fear hamster.

Wonna bet that it wont be long before a “in case of nuclear war do this” tutorial comes out?

The Pentagon does not ‘have to’ blow up the world and commit suicide. The threat ‘destroy the world or I will have you executed’ lacks force, especially if their pre-emptive reply has been ‘BANG – you’re dead Mr. President!’ He can’t even get them to obey his orders to build a wall, or withdraw from Syria.
