On April 14, the Houthis ambushed a convoy of the Saudi Army in the southern Saudi province of Jizan, the Yemeni al-Masirah TV reported.
The al-Masirah TV released a video of the ambush that shows Houthi fighters destroying more than six vehicles of the Saudi Army with rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank guided missiles (ATMGs).
The Houthis media wing reported that the Houthis had destroyed another vehicle of the Saudi Army with an IED in the province of Najran province, west of the province of Jizan.
Saudi sources acknowledged that six soldiers and officers of the Saudi Army had been killed in the two ambushes. The number of injured Saudi Army soldiers is expected to be higher.
These ambushes are likely the Houthis’ response to the recent advance of the Saudi-led coalition on the Yemeni-Saudi border. The coalition and its Yemeni proxies captured the key Yemeni town of Midi, south of Najran province, on April 11.
Observers believe that the Houthis will launch even larger cross border attacks in the upcoming days, in an attempt to deter the Saudi-led coaltion.
Recently, the Houthis have increased their cross-border attacks against and missile launches at targets in Saudi Arabia. This activity is linked to both the complicated military situation in Yemen and the developing escalation in the Middle East.
