Syrian military continues to actively use Uragan multiple launch rocket system in fighting against terrorists.
The Uragan multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) is currently one of the most powerful systems that are in service in the Syrian Army. This weapon is used in the most critical areas of the merciless war against international terrorism, the Vestnik Mordovii information website reported.
Despite the fact that the Uragan system was put into service more than 40 years ago, the majority of its characteristics is still does not underperform from a number of modern models.
The system is equipped with 16 guides for 220-mm rocket projectiles. The weight of one high-explosive shell is 280 kg, including 50 kg of explosive agent. The engagement range of the MLRS is up to 35 km, the coverage area – 426,000 square meters. The time of firing is no more than 20 seconds.
The multiple launch rocket system is mounted on the ZIL-135LM four-wheeled cross-country vehicle. The weight of the vehicle is up to 20 tons. Two engines, capacity of each of which is 180 hp, are capable to speed the ZIL-135LM up to 65 km per hour. The fuel distance is 570 km, a crew consists of four people. There is a special transport-charging vehicle in order to carry a charging process of the ZIL-135LM.
As the website noted, Syrian military highly appreciates these multiple launch rocket systems, which significantly surpass the older BM-21 Grad, and numerous variants of home-made rocket launchers, such as the Vulkan.
