On June 17, supporters of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) released a video showing fighters of the radical group vowing to defeat the Syrian liberation Front (SLF). The video was taken inside a secret training camp of HTS’ elite forces in the town of Kafr Nabl in the southern idlib countryside, according to Syrian opposition activists.
Commenting on the controversial video, a senior military commander of HTS, Abu Yusuf al-Hamui, told the HTS-linked news network Iba’a that the video was shot after a recent disagreement with the SLF. Al-Hamui also vowed to punish the fighter responsible for the video.
However, al-Hamui didn’t explain what these fighters were doing inside a secret training camp in southern Idlib, near key positions of the SLF.
Between February 19 and April 24, HTS and the SLF fought each other in one of the most violent inter-rebel conflicts, so far. According to Syrian Observation for Human Rights (SOHR), more than 430 civilians and fighters were killed during the conflict.
It is very likely that HTS is secretly planning to launch a new military operation against the SLF, especially that it failed to eliminate the group or capture its strongholds during the previous conflict.
