Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) claimed on Sunday that its special operation units have managed to detonate a VBIED inside the Al-Mina al-Bida Naval base in the northern part of Lattakia province. HTS published photos the Al-Mina al-Bida base showing an explosion, as well as Tir II missile boats and Zhuk-class patrol boats Of the Syrian Navy.
HTS claimed that the attack led to the killing and wounding of a number of Syrian soldiers. However, the Hezbollah media wing in Syria claimed that the explosion was fake and that the photos from filming a television series inside the naval base, and there was no attack on the base. The Hezbollah media wing had previously announced a terrorist attack on the Al-Mina al-Baida base.
According to sources from the Syrian Navy, the explosion caused only minor injuries to few soldiers, and no boat or equipment was damaged, but the source didn’t confirm or deny whether the explosion was a part of filming somthing or an attack by the HTS.
This might be the first time when the so-called opposition attacked the Syrian Navy. It’s worth mentioning that Al-Mina al-Baida base was used by the Russian Navy during the beginning of the Russian military deployment in Syria.
