Greater Idlib: New Wave Of Russian Airstrikes Hit Militant Positions As Protests Continue Near Turkish Posts (Videos)

On July 23, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out six airstrikes on militants’ positions in the outskirts of the town of al-Bara in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.

A day earlier, three Russian airstrikes targeted al-Bara. An “observation post” of the Turkish military is located near the town.

Al-Bara is located in the al-Zawiya Mount, an area in the southern part of Greater Idlib where al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) maintains a strong presence.

A day earlier, protests were held near Turkish posts in the al-Zawiya Mount and other parts of Greater Idlib. The protesters demanded Turkey to put an end to government shelling by political or military means, while ignoring recent ceasefire violations by HTS and its allies. The protests were renewed on July 23.

The Russian airstrikes on al-Bara on July 22 and 23 were likely a response to the repeated ceasefire violations by HTS and its allies.

The ceasefire in Greater Idlib, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey last year, is barely holding up. Nevertheless, it will not likely collapse anytime soon.

The Objective

A much more dangerous situation has come into sharp focus for Iran.
The U.S is watching the Syria-Iraq border and will destroy any Shiite militias and weapons destined for Lebanon to help Hezbollah in a future civil war. Even worse, the Israelis are watching the Syria-Lebanon border to prevent any such movement of Shiite forces and weapons into Lebanon.
Will Russia guarantee a safe passage for the Shiite forces and weapons? Will Russia protect them on the way to Lebanon? This is highly unlikely. Russia’s main goal is to prevent the fall of Assad. It’s unlikely to take on the U.S and Israel in a regional war against Iranian proxies.
Hezbollah has now been effectively cut off from Iran. That’s because of the war in Syria and America and Israeli control of the two key border crossings between Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. The only other border is the Israeli-Lebanese border.

I fear for the Lebanese civilians that civil war in Lebanon is now inevitable. A civil war designed to destroy Hezbollah. I am almost certain that Arab fighters will be mobilized by Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E and sent into Lebanon through the Israeli border. This is what Iran’s creation of Hezbollah could bring for Lebanon. This could lead to a genocide of the Shiites in Lebanon. Good job Iran. You just managed to endanger the very people you claim to want to protect.
