Syrian government forces, mainly units of Liwa al-Quds, the National Defense Forces and the Syrian Arab Army, have launched a security operation in the area south of al-Mayadin in the province of Deir Ezzor, according to pro-government sources.

This effort is aimed at craking down ISIS cells operating in this desert area. The operation comes amid the increasing ISIS activity in eastern Syria. ISIS units have conducted a series of attacks on government positions near the T2 pumping station, al-Mayadin and al-Bukamal. These attack pose a serious security threat to government forces as their elite units are now focused on fighting militants in Eastern Ghouta.

  • SAA has had time to scout these areas well since the successful DeZ and al-Bukamal Offensives. Hopefully drone surveillance has already located the Orc havens and eradication will be swift and final!

      I wholeheartedly agree with you

ISIS operating without US funding is like my 89 GMC v8 4×4 truck getting 200 MPG. They can sure make each bullet go a long ways.

As I have told, the SAA should have finished this pocket before going to Abu Al Duhur Airport, now, they’re paying the price.

The desert is vast and the US would have continued to funnel supplies into it.

And occupying is rather costy, much more in such a harsh environment. While those IS remnants were getting a tan, consuming DoD budget, Syria and allies were liberating other places or planning this pocket’s future eradication. American taxpayer money is in good hands.

The key for the SAA is to use the desert areas infiltrated by ISIS as a Live Fire Training Ground to gain invaluable real combat experience and also to keep the area under control :)

Hunt the rats and kill them!

I think Assad finally managed to get the local militias back on track, good to see they aren’t fighting the Kurds/US anymore.
