Over 100 Syrian soldiers trained by Russian military advisors near Damascus were deployed in the Tyas Airbase in the province of Homs, according to pro-government sources.

The deployed fighters were members of the so-called “Fifth Attack Troop Corps” which formation was announced on November 22, 2016.

Members The Fifth Attack Troop Corps is trained and allegedly equipped and paid by Russia.

The deployment of fresh troops was aimed to improve the Syrian army’s combat capabilities and to contribute to offensive efforts in the area
