The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) forces published photos of a US AeroVironment RQ-11B Raven drone on November 19, that allegedly had been used by Ukrainian military and put down near Bezimennoe town on the coast of the Sea of Azov, bpmd blog reported.
72 RQ-11B Raven drones were delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the US in the summer of 2016 as part of US military assistance to Ukraine. The drones were manufactured under contract between the US Army to AeroVironment Inc for approximately $9 million. 90 drones were manufactured with analogue equipment for supplying Foreign Military Sales (FMS) for Ukraine. The money came from a special US defense fund for the fiscal year of 2010.
Ukraine received RQ-11B Raven drones with obsolete communications systems (without Digital Data Link), which are susceptible to interception and radio warfare, which, according to the statement from the General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine in late 2016, made these drones not that effective for action.
