Iranian strike drones Shahed are more and more often used by the Russian military in the war in Ukraine. Over the past week, drone strikes have targeted Ukrainian military facilities in the Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. In late September, Geranium UAVs (as drones from Iran were rebranded in Russia) destroyed several military facilities in the Odessa region, including the headquarters of the AFU South command in Odessa.
Experts note the difficulty of targeting UAVs with missile defense systems due to their speed and low flight altitude. A distinctive feature of the usage of the new UAVs is the striking of targets in the enemy rears, causing difficulties in supplying the Ukrainian army and disabling artillery and MLRS systems.
According to open sources, the Geranium-2 does not have its own video camera and is guided to the target by satellite navigation. In this regard, to improve the effectiveness of Geranium drones, the Russian military needs to solve the problem of early target detection with the fastest possible transmission of coordinates to the drone to inflict an attack.
It is also obvious that the use of kamikaze drones must be massive and systematic in order to cause sensitive damage to Ukrainian troops.
The exact number of UAVs provided by Iran is unknown. The conditions under which Russia received the drones, which inflict such sensitive strikes on the Ukrainian army, also remain unknown. According to some evidence, it may be about the transfer to Iran of a party of Russian SU-35 fighter jets, previously intended for sale to Egypt, but which did not arrive there due to U.S. sanctions. It is also unclear how quickly Russia will be able to set up production of the Geranium UAVs on its own territory.
Having entered service with the Russian military, the new Geranium-2 UAVs complement the Russian Cube and Lancet UAVs of the light class that are also deployed on the Ukrainian front lines. Apparently, the Geranium-2 is larger and heavier than the Cube or Lancet. It also carries a more powerful warhead and has an increased range. Thus, the Russian Army now has several barrage ammunition with different characteristics at its disposal. This makes it possible to increase the flexibility and effectiveness of the use of such weapons, as well as optimize the use of other striking means.
In fact, it is able to complement Russian long-range missiles, such as the famous Kalibr missiles that are launched by the Russian Navy from the Black Sea. The simplicity and cheapness of the UAVs, as well as their land launcher, give certain advantages. They have already proved their effectiveness against the small targets as artillery systems as well as against the enemy facilities like the military headquarters and warehouses in Odessa. The UAVs remain unnoticed by the Ukrainian air defences.
In any case, the significant increase in the size of the Russian armed forces after the mobilization, as well as the arrival of new types of weapons (including the Geranium UAVs, modern T-90M main battle tanks, and the new generation SU-57 fighters) allow us to conclude that the Kremlin is well prepared for the autumn-winter military campaign in Ukraine.

Russia needs to GTFO of Ukraine and focus on its own problems since it has many. They are done in Ukraine anyway, why prolong the defeat. Russian officers and generals are so incompetent, that even if you gave them 22nd century weapons, 10th gen space fighters, they would manage to lose them in Ukraine.
My Suggestion is this Start evacuating non essential staff from Washington DC. Do not listen to those morons who sound like they know what is coming. Their mind cannot see beyond their computer monitors
Oh dude, what are they going to use on Washington DC? Rusty nukes, like rusty AKs that they gave to moooobilized reserve? Or maybe some flying mosin nagants?
You will find out.
I wish I could see your face when the first nuke goes off
You are probably the type that poops in the pants before dying.
The rest of us will die with dignity
Hhahaha, yeah sure. But back to reality, Russia is soon going to be balkanized, starting from Dagestan and unsuccessful mooobilization!
You just want to say something that make you feel good.
Rusty nukes = Minutemen built in 70s and designed in 60s (when Nazi von Braun was still alive)
Russian ICBMs and missiles in general are vastly superior than anything US has. Cope hard little dumb fag. Perhaps you’ll make hypersonic missile in 2100s but only if you resurrect von Braun. Until then go choke on your rusty, overused dildo.
At least maintained, and not the primary strike source. F22 will deliver nukes over Moscow, you won’t even notice it.
I am not amused at the childish intelligence of these agents like you. You are a permanent adolescent. Completely thinks he is a comedian while people are dying and millions more will die as a result of nuclear war.
Laugh then poop as you and your elk get pulverized when the SARMAT goes off.
My condolences moron. And PS, you are not funny!
F22so old it will delivery by get rid of it aircraft part ,if lucky it will fail on american heads.
US nuke also build around 60s. When launch may fail on american heads.
What do you think hypersonic missiles are for? There are 2 ways to intercept them … a lucky shot with a conventional missile and a lucky shot with a nuclear missile. The nuclear option has a slightly better chance than the one in a billion chance of a random meeting of bullets. Now get back to playing call of duty in your moms basement and let the adults speak.
I’m pretty sure Ruski have one or two hypersonics left, and they can’t penetrate missile defense of hundreds of interceptors going in each of them. The rest are fake decoys, since we all know Ruski can’t make them without imported western tech.
You may not believe it but they are actually focusing on their problems
I’d say Russia does not need drones, since they are not trying to win anyways. Whenever America invades a country, they destroy all the enemy bridges and power grid on day 1. They bomb countries back to the stone age before a single soldier sets foot in the country. Russia still has not destroyed a single bridge or tried to limit the amount of western weapon imports into Ukraine. Obviously they are aligned with the WEF, just like everybody else. I was hoping differently at the start of the conflict but unfortunately the writing is on the wall.
Russia can’t win, its not like they are not trying to. Simply, their old rusty airforce, and small ground forces, poorly equipped and covered by unguided dumb artillery can’t take on a bigger country than Georgia.
Mate just stop typing, you are either a paid troll or just a complete retard. You can make explosives using household items to destroy a medium sized bridge. You don’t need an airforce or even artillery.
Holms Jen is a complete retard even worse than Jens holm, s-he is just some pathetic gay loser desperate for attention. I doubt even Ukrops would pay him, s-he is completely worthless. Probably that monkey tomSewer/canuck/joe9211
Beating(with arguments) pro Russian people is so easy that it makes my day, no need to be paid unlike Ruski propaganda channels. Simply, Russian total incompetence in every field gives overwhelming evidence against it.
But you made no arguments, you just made yourself look like a fucking retard. If anything you posted above sounds like an argument to you then you did not even pass basic debate club in high school. Unless your argument is that Russia does not blow up bridges and power plants because they can’t, in which case I will just stop responding to you altogether, because literally ANY person who can access a DIY store and the internet can gather what they need to accomplish those tasks, literally anybody including myself. You don’t need an army to destroy a bridge.
Retard you have no arguments and no brain. You are a lame troll and failing even at trolling.
Russia has already won this conflict… all what is happening now is just closing the case… The Soviets did not defeat the Nazis in May 1945 in Berlin, then the armed conflicts ended and Nazi Germany capitulated. The Soviets defeated the Germans in World War II in November 1941 at the gates of Moscow. Everything that happened from November 1941 to May 1945 was just the conclusion of the case…
Hahaha, winning by losing territory and retreating lol! Not to mention losing state of art jets, tanks, wasting missiles to such extent that now DIY Iran drone is a substitute for Iskander. Hahahaha lol
It’s not a substitute you silly fool, it’s simply much cheaper. Why wasting Iskanders on depots in Odessa when you can use one of these? As we can see Ukrops can’t intercept them.
Georgia!??? It was smashed in 5 days back in 2008.
It is so sad when I hear opinions from people (majority) who simply and easily without thought or confirmed data project their little meaningless piece of no information and expect others to sit up and say Bravo !
I was so stupid not to look and see it was the meaningless JH who made that comment. Please forgive me for being so sheeplike and not checking what lowlife made the comment. Sometimes anger and frustration can make you miss the facts.
Yes for the time being, until Russia ramps up production. There is mutual technology transfer at various levels. Iranian super himars are coming too.
MLRS from Iran? Like one of the best HIMARS type MLRS is made by Belarus, 300km range, equal precision and mobility to M142, uses GLONASS instead of GPS. But yeah, why would RU import that, why would their politicians and officers be competent for a single thing.
Ukraine has multiple nato countries sending different weapons from tanks to rocket and drones. While all Russia allies are all mostly using old Soviet weapons that won’t really help Russia that much in modern war
Everything that help to win against the fascists is welcome. If lets say Uganda is able to deliver a drone that can penetrate (that is what she said) the Ukro positions then ‘her damit’ the RF should buy it. Right on!
AMERICA WILL PROVIDE UKRAINE WITH DDFENSE SYSTE.M THAT WILL KNOCK DRONES AND FIGHTER JETS PUTIN BETYER HAVE OTHER WEAPONS THAT ARE UN MATCGED, OTHERWISE IT US GOING TO HAVE NO EFFECT
Yes, NASAMS and Gepards will knock out any drone or missile. Just give Ukraine more of these systems, plus HIMARS(like 50 of them), and Russia will be running to Moscow.
Are your predictions so miserable as your English?!
Pathetic russian military industrial complex that the russians and their supporters are proud of.
Already four attacks on military enlisting offices in Russia. Russians are done with Putka. He is going down from outside and from within.
NATO/CIA activated all their terrorist sleeper cells. They must be really desperate.
They even targeting children in schools, sick demonic terrorist scum (your masters)
They need everything that they lack. For some strange reason they have not concentrated enough on drone warfare and on integrated warfare. The communication between officers and frontline soldiers takes to long. The target is gone before the artilery fires.
Where are all those nice toys they have shown us in the past. Block the communication between nato Satelites and Avacs and ukraine will be blind and headless.
This knowledge comes from your many hours of front line service?
“Block the communication between nato Satelites and Avacs and ukraine will be blind and headless.”
Not really possible to do this.
The American rats will not survive one day without cheating lying and stealing. In Syria they are stealing resources in broad daylight. A true act of desperation of a dying hegemon that stands for nothing
This. Those fat pigs shut up about Assad now that they’re sucking their country dry.
Whether or not Russia needs drones is not important. This again is a financial win for both countries. Sanctions be damned!
Iran, years under international embargo, with a population and recourse way smaller than Russia, was able to produce modern drones which Russia could not. So Iran very smart or Russia just unprepared?
Also, to what extend is critic allowed on SF? Asking genuine questions (which may not always be positive) allowed or do we have to go full N-Korea style and in no way critic the dear leader?
Of course Russia does not need them. However, the buying of these drons helps a lot to encreases and to improve Iran economy and research.
Why not? Why shouldn’t Russia use cheap and effective methods?
First, there’s no such thing as wonder weapon or game changers (not counting the very first use of nuclear bombs). What counts is how you use them. These are very cheap weapon systems capable of doing many tasks of regular, larger and more expensive weapon systems. But to efficiently using them requires some changes in how you think and plan. Maybe it’s becoming clearer for some why we are so relaxed in modernizing our “legacy” airforce. We can discuss these topics more if there’s any interest.
I noticed that Russians use a nickname for Geran-2, “Persian Doritos”. :) What we saw so far are the plain flavour. There are Pistachio flavoured, Saffron and Caviar. The most deadly ones have a cool cat riding them; yeehaw! Those attacks are test runs and are performed with one or two drones in tandem. The party starts when they come in swarms… Do you remember the airplane with UH-60 scorts from Romania to Odessa? I hear it was carrying point airdefence systems. If correct, 2 points come forward: 1- Since they are new systems, Ukrainians probably lack the required training for them, so US or NATO personnel may operate them and 2- They have to have radars. Very good to test the export anti-radiation variant of those flying carpets. Undo! ctrl+Z! I misspoke, I meant good for testing Russian anti radiation Geran-2. Honest.
So far I couldn’t find any new picture of oddly intact “downed” Mohajer-6 which Ukraine said shoot down near Odessa. I’d certainly published multiple pics of that drone from different angles and details had I shoot it down or captured it. We did it with every single American or Izzie drone we downed or captured. Let’s wait a few more days, eh?
“Very good to test the export anti-radiation variant of those flying carpets.”
My thoughts exactly, if these drones can carry anti-radar missiles they should use them to destroy remaining radars and S-300 and Buk’s. US converted bunch of Ukr. Mig-29 to carry HAARMs, I don’t understand why Russians did not suppress and destroy remains of long range Ukro air defense already? They started attacking them in February and then completely stopped for some reason, and now Russian AF is contained to sporadic low flying bomb runs, vulnerable to manpads.
Its not about should or should not. Iran, under years of embargo, can produce their own drones (all self made, unlike Turkey) while Russia, with all the resources can’t. So either credit to Iran or its kinda phatic from the Russian side.
I agree with you to a degree, it’s not like they “can’t” as in unable to do it. They never thought about any other way. There’s a reason for that. I wrote something like this in reply to another comment, now I can’t find it so I try to re-write it.
We all heard that “Necessity is the mother of invention”. Because of decades of sanctions, embargo and threats we had to learn to think out of the box to solve the problems that other countries solve by buying (or strong-arming in case of Izzies) the required hardware or procedure from others. It was very hard, specially at the beginning where we lacked the necessary industries and specially military industrial base. We even couldn’t produce decent steel so we wouldn’t even dream of creating what today is a very dynamic and innovative industrial base if we could simply buy what we needed or more precisely, what we were being told we might need, like so many useless things we bought for insane price tags when Shah reigned.
Russia produced and produces world-class -if not the best- weapon systems. What they build (warfare)) is according to their military doctrine which evolved and shaped based on their ability, geography and in response to their adversaries, as did their rivals. Maybe they could do better but if you look at others, it seems the usual route for everyone. We didn’t have the luxury of funds, normal relations with other countries or even a relative safety so we too, had to do something with what we had. The result of pressure, threats, limited resources and thinking out of the box is what we see today.
I agree. Huge credit to Iran without berating Russia or any other country like Turkey. In addition to so many innovations in other fields, much of our new weapons are created with “out of the box” mindset. Having a large arsenal of missiles and drones is the result of not being able to buy/produce military jets. Making them resistant to jamming is the result of not having access to reliable GPS and communication satellites. Deadly, accurate, long range torpedoes and anti-ship missiles is the result of not having a large navy and airforce. Loitering air defence is the result of small military budget and overall accuracy of weapons has a religious and humane reason to avoid “collateral damage”. Most important of them all, we hated to sit idly or surrender so we needed to do something about it.
Good points, Iran is well prepared. Even the military factories are build in freaking mountains or deep under ground the ground, out of reach of air attacks. Just one question, did Iran shifted to misles and drones because it is cheaper and easier or choose this because they lacked pilots (like Turkey)?
No, there’s no shortage of amazing pilots. If you are interested, take a look at Iran’s aerial operations in the 1980-1988 war. Some of them are among the most daring and complicated operations in the history, performed with perfection. To name a few, operations Kaman-99 (Alborz), H3, Sultan, Baghdad and Burning Sword (this one is kept in total silence. 9 month before operation Opera).
I’m sorry if I repeat myself. So much comments are deleted that I lost track of what is removed and what is remained.
The real reason was we came under sanction and embargo immediately after the 1979 revolution. American advisors saboutaged many weapon systems before they leave (radars, Hawk systems, F-4s, F14s and Phoenix missiles and so on) and western countries withheld delivering the things we bought and paid in full. Naturally they did their best so we didn’t have access to spare parts and replacements. As you can imagine, a war puts stress on the equipment and takes its toll, we couldn’t buy anything new and had to great lengths to acquire parts with insane prices, so we had to be conservative on how we used what we had. In numerous stances our pilots traded their lives to bring the damaged jets to the tarmac instead of jumping, they willingly did it because they knew a damaged plane can be repaired but a destroyed one is lost. Because of scarcity of RF-4s to take pictures, our drone program was born. Because of huge gaps in radar coverage and no AWACS we used F-14s as some sort of aerial warning system, so we thought about other methods to compensate for radar coverage. Saddam attacked our cities with SCUDs and variants, we didn’t have anything. Qaddafi gave us 20 SCUDs (bought some from other places, total near 80), couldn’t use them because we lacked training. Hafez al-Assad sent some instructors but they left without finishing the training, so we did it by trial and error. One hero, shahid Tehrani Moqaddam advised the commanders to keep a couple of missiles and not fire them. By dissecting them, our missile program was born.
Our boys and girls managed to keep the airforce jets (and other equipment) airworthy during the war and kept improving them afterward. The problem of parts was still present and the US did everything they could, including shredding all of their own F-14 fleet to keep ours on the ground. In 1991 some of Saddam jets fled Iraq and came to Iran, we kept them as a part of compensation for war and bought some used Migs and Sukhois from former Soviet republics and some Chinese knock offs. These are the newer planes in the airforce. You can take a look on the airplanes of Iran’s airforce. Interestingly, our boys kept the Mirage F-1s airworthy and upgraded them without knowing the first thing about them.
We knew that our airforce can’t operate as a classic one in a war with a peer or stronger adversary so we found other roles for it and learnt how to build and use replacements in form of missiles and drones instead. Those old jets like Phantoms are still deadly (and should be taken seriously according to sober American analysts, because of their speed, capacity and unknown upgrades) as platforms of other weapon systems. In parallel we started to develop a fighter based on one the most simple and reliable platforms, the F-5 (which in the US evolved into F-18). But developing a jet when there’s no other costumer is not cheap, so we took our time and put the focus in the replacement, while continued to make slow progress.
It’s urgent to re-setup the production of the old V-1 missile with INS/GPS guide. It’s the cheaper missile you could have and has a 850 kg warhead.
The Iranian regime exports terror to the Russian regime but you wait and see like what we are seeing on the streets of Iran, and Russia, the hand that rocks the cradle will blow the terror and destroy these vile terrorists. The chosen show no mercy to the terror, the promised land will be freed 🦾🇮🇱
Blow your daddy again you dumb terrorist zionazi piece of shit, fake wannabe Jewish goy trash. your ‘hand’ can wipe Joe’s asshole instead of your tongue.
No, dear ones, bombing your terrorist entity into existence in Palestine brought terror into the world. Your exceptionalist, man-hating ideology of Semitism is the mother of all racism and terrorism!
Shetieyeh lakhe shana semekha!
Can’t you write a normal comment? You have to act intimating all the time, don’t you? Calm down a bit baba…
Yesterday I baked two amazing 6-strands Khallah breads, one round and one straight. The nice lady who gave me her family recipe the last time I was over there approved them (the shape and texture via video chat, fortunately not the taste!) which means A LOT since she makes fun of her daughters and grand daughters cooking and baking. According to savtellah I’m ready to marry a nice Jewish girl and have lots and lots of children. Why don’t you help a friend, Danial? Otherwise, you force me to free the promised land for selfish reasons and personal gain! :))
Amazing how ungrateful you are. Russia helped defeat Hitler and create Israel, just like ancient Persians before them fought to give Jews a kingdom when Jews were oppressed. This is how you repay them every time. Friendship with ZioNazis like you is worthless. The only one who falls for it are American fools that you leech off because that’s what you were taught.
He is Turkish kebab masquarading as a Jew. Probably faggot too, like most inbred kebabs.
This comments section ……………………….wow
Whole Russian military is deeply corrupted, soldiers poorly trained and officers and especially NCOs incompetent to lead soldiers. War in Ukraine has been disaster to reputation of Russian Armed Forces. It’s now a public joke all over the world.
shit troll from shit country makes shit comments ^
Where is the Russian Airforce? What a joke, reports from everywhere about ukrainian groupings and their not being destroyed. Hiding in forests. Do they not have infrared radar. WTF.You should be able to just use your airforce to destroy their army. or at least burn the forests you morons. Looks like Russia started something they can’t finish. Taking on entrenched fortifications from the front unbelievable. Russia had a chance to strike from the rear of all the east facing trenches. NO ZHUKOVS in Russia anymore.
Hey Z-for-Victory, Pulsejets have promising application as backup thrust for single engine fighters. If such modernized V1 also had a non-weapons mode (non-launch), then a single engine jet, such as a Mig-23/27 carrying two such V1-like missiles under the wing could limp back into friendly territory, probably even to base, using the thrust supplied by the two pulsejets.
Or, on a regular flight without an engine failure, the two V1’s could be used after a sortie into the front, once back over friendly territory.
The fuel on these modernized V1’s could be a small fraction of the WW2 V1’s. Just a range of 100km-150km is quite practical already as a shorter range stand off weapon.
geranium is a beautifull flower
