On January 31, the Houthis repelled a large-scale attack by the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies on their positions along the border between the Yemeni province of Saada and the kingdom’s province of Asir.
The Yemeni group’s media wing released a 4-mintue video showing Houthi fighters shelling gatherings of Saudi-led coalition troops with artillery and heavy machine guns. A Houthi sniper can be also seen targeting the coalition’s personnel.
“An escalation for an escalation, the blood of the martyrs is precious,” a field commander of the Houthis shouts in the end of the video.
Coalition attack helicopters and unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) carried out several airstrikes on the Houthis’ defenses to support Saudi-backed forces. However, the airstrikes were apparently ineffective.
The Saudi-led coalition launched several ground attacks against the Houthis in central and northern Yemen after the implementation of the UN-sponsored ceasefire agreement in the western part of the country. The coalition likely sees these attacks as a tool to pressure the Iranian-backed group.
