Car Bomb Explosion Rocks Center Of Afrin City, Casualties Reported (Photos)

On December 16, a booby-trapped car exploded in the Halles marked in the center of Turkish-occupied city of Afrin in northern Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the attacks targeted a headquarter of an “Islamic group.”

Initial reports says that eight people were killed in the explosion. According to the SOHR, the number of casualties will likely raise in the upcoming hours, as many people were severally wounded.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, Syrian opposition sources are already accusing the People’s Protection Units (YPG). The Kurdish group is not known for carrying out such random attacks.

The Turkish military and its proxies imposed their control of Afrin earlier this year following a rapid attack. Most YPG fighters were forced to withdraw to few villages in the southern Afrin countryside and to the Kurdish-held areas in northeastern Syria.

The new attack comes amid high tension between Kurdish forces and Ankara, which vowed to launch an attack in northeastern Syria within a few days.

The Kurdish day of reckoning is soon at hand. That will be a good day. I’m going to bookmark this thread to celebrate with you when we get there.

SOHR reports that the attack targeted an Islamic group. Since when did an Islamic group instantly equate to some kind of invader HQ? We don’t even know which group and how that group might relate to Turkish proxies, or not at all. If the attackers picked that target because it was less protected than more serious Turkish groups or even TAF than it’s a random attack. If it’s infighting between lower food chain jihadi groups now suppressed by Turkey’s area control than it’s a random attack. And the Kurds richly deserve any spanking Turkey gives them, what with conspiring with the U.S. to carve out a Kurdish statelet from Syrian territory and ruling Arab tribes with a heavy hand.

Yep. The attack was on a public market, via carbomb. A random attack, certainly. With civilian casualties. NOT the invader HQ, or anything close to that descriptive.

hahaha that’s so sad. Do you even know the meaning of random ? Or do you need some help with your education ? Here’s for you : “made, done, or happening without method or conscious decision.”.

        • Ricky Miller

Clearly not hard enough. How about this. Random or not they chose a soft target, a cowardly act useful for terrorism but militarily insignificant. Since Kurds are the most cowardly group operating in the Syrian conflict I’d bet this was a gone wrong target B YPG operation. Was that trying hard enough? Terrorist sympathizer much?

It states “On December 16, a booby-trapped car exploded in the Halles marked in the center of Turkish-occupied city of Afrin in northern Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the attacks targeted a headquarter of an “Islamic group.”

so Turkish occupied city with a headquarter of ISIS ?……gee that was unexpected !!.

      • k0k00k

haha wow. How do you make up those thing ? Where in the article does it say that there is ISIS in Afrin ? Are you some kind of mentally challenged person ?

The first sentence numb nuts – “On December 16, a booby-trapped car exploded in the Halles marked in the center of Turkish-occupied city of Afrin in northern Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the attacks targeted a headquarter of an “Islamic group.”

OK, maybe not ISIS, but an affiliate of ISIS or AQ.
