On October 17, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan released a video of recent airstrikes on the Armenian-held town of Martakert in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In an official statement, the ministry claimed that the airstrikes hit fuel and ammunition depots of Armenian forces. Nevertheless, photos from the ground revealed that the target was a military hospital.
According to a report by the France-Press Agency, Azerbaijani airstrikes hit Martakert’s military hospital on October 14. Sources there told the agency that the airstrikes hit just as some wounded service members were arriving from the frontlines some 10 km away.
The Azerbaijani airstrikes wounded many people inside the hospital. A number of nearby civilian houses were also damaged as a result of the airstrikes.

The airstrikes may have been carried out by Su-25 warplanes of the Azerbaijani Air Force, which are known to be active over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The aerial attack on Martakert’s military hospital amounts to a war crime. The Azerbaijani MoD’s video confirms Baku responsibility for the attack. The motives of the attack remain unclear.
