Amid the ongoing military operations of Russia in Ukraine, the situation has simultaneously escalated in many unstable regions where Moscow has its interests.
Moldova gave signals about the possible unfreezing of the conflict in Transnistria. In early August, political manoeuvres in Kosovo led to escalation on the borders with Serbia.
While the whole world was watching the flight of Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, betting on the beginning of World War III, hostilities resumed near the Russian borders in the Caucasus.
After a series of clashes since the end of July, on August 3, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan announced a military operation “Retaliation” in Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan demanded the complete disarmament of Artsakh and the withdrawal of the Armenian military from the territory.
Azerbaijani units have launched military operations in three directions at once. The Azerbaijani military is set to take the Lachin corridor and cut the road between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani side demanded Armenia to organize communications by another route.
The declared reason for escalation was the attack of Armenian forces which resulted in the death of Azerbaijani soldier in the region of Lachin.
As a result, an Azierbaijani Bayraktar TB2 UAV struck an Armenian post at Sarydag height. Two hours later, another UAV attack and artillery fire hit the positions of the Artsakh Defense Army to the west of the village of Yehtsaoh. Clashes were reported on the contact line.
In the northern direction, fighting broke out in the area of the village of Martakert.
In the north-western direction, Azerbaijan concentrated forces near the village of Parukh, which it managed to occupy in April this year.
As a result of the operation, Azerbaijan has taken control of several heights along the Karabakh ridge, where new positions are being set up and supply routes are being laid.
The ministry of defense of Artsakh claimed that the Azerbaijani strikes killed two Armenian soldiers and wounded 14 others.
The Karabakh government announced partial mobilization. The Artsakh Defense Army is moving reinforcements to the most dangerous areas.
Hundreds of Russian peacekeepers are currently deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh to enforce the ceasefire reached after the war of 2020.
So far, the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers has not been declared. However, the active participation of the Russian military in a new conflict is unlikely. Russia has little interest in supporting the Pashinyan’s regime remaining in power in Armenia. At the same time, Moscow is establishing ties with Baku and Istanbul. Azerbaijan’s military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh may end the decades of instability in the Russian border region and will allow withdrawing of the Russian military from the region. After all, the time of military operations by Azerbaijan was well chosen. A large offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine which the Kiev regime has publicly declared is expected to begin in the second half of August.
Well, maybe… But, I kind of doubt it. Russia needs stability in the corridor of the South Caucuses, linking them with Iran and the middle east by land and keeping a strong presence to ballast the balance of power (and Russia’s interests) with Turkey. The roots of the provocations between Armenia and Azerbeijan were never pulled up. They only went dormant after the last round. Can’t guess if they will get pulled up this time or not, but you can bet your grandma’s surgery money that Russia probably will not abandon the region.
Russia, India, and Iran’s new trade route doesn’t include Armenia or Azerbaijan – it can link up but it is not going into Azerbaijan or Armenia.
India (Mumbai) -> Iran (Bandar-Abas) -> Russia (Astrakhan to Moscow). Yes, it can stop at Baku.
Can I ask you a question? Why would Russia care about Armenia? It is Armenia that tries to cut ties with Russia. Did you forget about the protests and who is in power in Armenia STILL?
Like the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, both Turkey and Azerbaijan take their chances.
This wouldn’t get any bigger – Armenia is poor and can’t handle another “war” at all.
It should care because it was a traditional ally and has a strong diaspora – it’s Russia’s fault that let Armenia be so infiltrated, like the countries in the Balkan peninsula were infiltrated, in order to turn them towards the EU and NATO. Yes, after 1990 Russia had no power for some years, but since it rose again it should have taken care of all its traditional allies! Ajerbaijan is worse than Armenia, it’s practically one with Turkey, and Turkey’s geopolitical interests clash with Russia’s in every region! (Balkans, Central Asia, Syria, Africa…)
The Russians are fools for pandering to either side. Neither are natural allies of the Russians.
The Allies are coming at russia from all directions…heheheh
“Allies”? Turkey and Azerbaijan? Trust me, both are the same as Zion-stan.
“All directions”? Russia doesn’t care about Armenia that much and they wouldn’t be a war, remember the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh “war”?
Turkey and Azerbaijan are two heads of a snake and they aren’t your “allies”, but it is Armenia that tries to get an EU membership and join NATO.
“In 2002, Armenia became an Associate Member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.”
Stop crying from Poland – go and join your dead Neo-Nazi friends and die fuk face.
Armenia tries to get EU membership? Who told you this lol? turk media ?
So is that what they’re calling Nazis now (Allies)?
you are stupid lgbt decadent over-fed rats that are sodomized by taliban
this conflict is mainly a humiliation for the atheist ameri-cannots
The Nagorno-Karabakh area was historically Armenia’s, though, in the same way that Russia claims as historically hers the southeastern regions of Ukraine! In the Treaty of the Sevres, Armenia was supposed to be a lot bigger towards the west, but Turkey turned the tables and kept the areas of Armenia. It’s an injustice it ended so tiny, squeezed between 2 deadly enemies.
Also, Iran doesn’t support Ajerbaijan in these actions because that border is a trade route for Iran.
Screaming “Karabakh is Armenia” won’t make it so, gayreek shitskin.
Plus their name for the land in the axper 🇦🇲 shitskin language is “aRtSaKh”.
It stinks goat fcker from you
Armenia has to give up on Western dreams and join a regional alliance. Like, Ukraine, they have an IQ problem.
because lower species amerikans cannot resolve disputes they believe others cannot
Azerbaijan won’t let Armenia keep Karabakh. It will 5skr it one way or the other particularly now that the West needs more gas and oil and Turkey to be on their side.
Armenia can’t decide which way to go. It flirts with the west and Nato but expect Russia to help.
Poor Armenia can’t get a break. This is one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations, the very first country to officially embrace Christianity. The Christian world – of which Russia is a prominent member – owes it to this long persecuted Christian people to stand up for them against the machinations of diabolical Muslims.
The author of this article is nuts if they think Russia’s interest is to find peace to the instability…. the instability is their excuse to be there, the US and the EU are the ones that are pushing the Pashinyan and Aliyev regimes for peace talks in order for there to be a reason to boot the Russian peacekeepers from the region. meanwhile, Turkey, a NATO member, is still going to be there at the request of Azerbaijan and is going to have total dominance in the region. Turkey’s foothold exceeds into Georgia and Azerbaijan, and if dialogue is successful between Ankara, Yerevan, and Baku, then you’re going to see NATO moving in and Russia being forced out of their only base in the region located in Armenia.
And the author makes it out that Turkey is somehow going to move into Russia’s orbit, don’t kid yourself, they are NATO at the end of the day, and if Brussel says it’s their time to poke the bear, they’re going to poke the bear.
Russia does not need to get involved in this directly. I think they have delegated the task to the Iranians, as they are sending military to the border with Azerbaijan.
Someone must stop the turk leagues terror expansions. It will be very costly for any civilized and peaceful peoples if these criminal can act how they want.
Russia Need’s to Immediately Step in Here By Organized Well Coordinated Covert Action Operations To Install Two New Pro-Russian-Neo Soveit Military Leader’s in Both Azerbaijan And Armenia!.Tighten Up it’s CSTO As Well as Enlarge it To include IRAN And SYRIA,And Formally Sign Up CCP-PRC & DPRK AS ASSOCIATE-ALLY:It Must Mobilize Learning Lessons From the Former WARSAW PACT And USSR’S Failure’s Due to Allowing Intra-Allied-Nationalist Disputes Get Out Of Hand And Play into Western (AMERICAN!) Hands it MUST-NOT HAPPEN AGAIN-NEVER!!!.
The Russians should just butt out. Neither side is a friend to Russia, both are pro-Western crap heads.
And you are little brainless warm slave of your zio slavemasters. Brainwashed one, turk who wants to show up as Russian.
