In a violation of the Greater Idlib ceasefire, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) special forces raided late on October 11 several positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in al-Ziyarah hilltop in the northern Lattakia countryside.
The al-Qaeda-affiliated group claimed in a statement released by its news network, Iba’a, that several Syrian service members were killed and injured in the raids.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), three SAA soldiers and a terrorist were killed during the raids.
A day later, helicopters of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) carried out a series of airstrikes on the terrorist group’s positions in northern Lattakia. The airstrikes targeted the key town of Kabani.
The Syrian airstrikes were likely a response to HTS’ attacks. The terrorist group’s repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement could soon force the SAA to launch a ground operation in northern Lattakia.
