According to a statement of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC), some 772 terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group have been killed, while 23 others have been arrested, since the beginning of an operation on liberation of Mosul.
Some 772 terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group have been killed, while 23 others have been arrested, since a massive operation on liberation of Iraqi city of Mosul was launched by Iraqi Armed forces and its allies on October 17, a statement, released by the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) on Thursday, revealed.
According to the statement, during the mentioned period, the Iraqi Forces also managed to destroy four cannons, seven explosive belts, 27 homemade mortar launchers, 127 car bombs and a large storehouse of weapons.
In addition, Iraqi soldiers and their allies blew up 397 explosive devices, five motorcycle bombs and four booby-trapped houses, as well as destroyed 40 defensive fighting positions, seven airstrike-resistant bunkers, three tunnels, three Dushka heavy machine guns and a command center of IS terrorists. A caravan and four heavy machine guns were also seized by Iraqi troops.
The JOC also added that 380 mortar shells, 61 Katyusha rockets, nine 120 mm mortar rounds, 1.5 tons of ammonium nitrate, 31 missile launchers, four anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade launchers and three PK machine guns were confiscated of terrorists. Two workshops, producing home-made bombs, were also discovered by the Iraqi Army.
On Thursday morning, Wadi al-Qasab village in al-Shoura district and the village of al-Hamza in Hammam al-Alil district, both of which are located south of Mosul, were recaptured by the Iraqi security forces.
At the same time, according to the Iraqi Defense Ministry, the air power of the US-led coalition struck al-Arabi neighborhood of Mosul, killing twelve IS terrorists. Meanwhile, 15 more terrorists were killed and two others were wounded during an attack of US-led aircraft on Suwayrah village, located in al-Shoura district.
Also on Thursday, a fire at the Mishraq sulphur factory was put out by Iraqi soldiers in some 30 km south of Mosul. The factory was set on fire by IS terrorists, who wanted to prevent advances of the Iraqi Army and security units.
