At least 20 soldiers and more than 40 civilians were killed, and hundreds others were injured in ISIS attacks in Monguno and Nganzai areas in Nigeria’s Borno state last weekend.
Militants of the Islamic State West Africa Province briefly captured Monguno, and seized a large number of equipment and weapons from government forces. They were forced to retreat from the village after the Nigerian military deploed warplanes to pound militants. During the attack, miltiants actively used motorcycles and pick-up trucks equipped with weapons.
The developments in Monguno and Nganzai came just a few days after armed militants killed at least 81 people in a raid on a village in a third area, Gubio.
