On February 9, Syrian and Russian warplanes carried out more than 120 airstrike on the western and southwestern Aleppo countryside, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The London-based monitoring group said that the airstrikes targeted the towns of Maaret Elnaasan, Kafr Nouran, Kafr Aleppo, Urem Al-Kubra and Mansoura as well as the 46th Brigade Base.
A day earlier, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) resumed their operations in northwest Syria. Bad weather conditions had grounded Syrian and Russian warplanes for two days.
The intense airstrikes on western and southwestern Aleppo are clearly meant to facilitate the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) advance along the strategic M5 highway.
