4,536 operations against ISIS have been carried out by Turkish security forces, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported on October 30. According to the report, security forces arrested 13,696 suspects (4,517 remain in custody) and neutralized 1,018 terrorists in the framework of these operations.
The state-run news agency says that at least 783 operations were conducted in 201, 1,391 operations – in 2017, 1,327 operations – in 2018, 1,035 operations – in 2019.
“As many as 75,480 foreign nationals, who were planning to go to conflict zones passing through Turkey, were barred from entering the country, after being detected by Turkish security units in coordination of intelligence agencies of other countries,” Anadolu Agency said.
However, the Turkish state-run outlet forgot to mention that until the activization of this anti-ISIS campaign. Turkey has been a major hub for foriegn ISIS fighters moving to participate in conflicts in Syria and Iraq, as well as for the ISIS-run oil smuggling.
